Judge Inyang Ekwo dismissed Anjarwalla’s suit against the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on June 19 due to “want of diligent prosecution.” Neither Anjarwalla nor the respondents’ legal representatives appeared in court.
Nigerian High Court Dismisses Lawsuit by Binance Executive
Anjarwalla filed his lawsuit on March 28, seeking a declaration that the agencies’ actions were illegal. Binance’s lawyer, Tonye Krukrubo, requested to withdraw from the case when it was filed, allowing Anjarwalla to find new representation. Anjarwalla was not present in court as he had escaped prison and fled to Kenya. The court postponed the proceedings until June 19 to give him time to engage new representatives.

Binance Executive’s Legal Battle Intensifies
On February 26, Nigerian authorities detained Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance. Gambaryan had traveled from the United States to assist the company in defending against charges of tax evasion and money laundering. These cases have increased tensions between the United States and Nigeria.
In response, Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen, filed a separate lawsuit against the NSA and EFCC on similar grounds. His case is scheduled for a hearing on July 9, with Krukrubo continuing to represent him. Meanwhile, Anjarwalla, who holds dual British and Kenyan citizenship, remains in Kenya as Nigeria seeks his extradition.
With Anjarwalla’s lawsuit dismissed, Nigerian authorities are expected to intensify their efforts to extradite him from Kenya for prosecution. However, Gambaryan’s ongoing lawsuit represents a crucial moment that could result in his release if successful.
