Beloved Shiba Inu and Dogecoin inspiration, Kabosu, has peacefully passed away at the age of 17. In a heartfelt blog post, owner Atsuko Sato expressed gratitude for the immense love and joy Kabosu brought to their life and the world.

Kabosu’s fame began in 2010 when a viral photo captured the internet’s heart with her expressive eyes and tilted head. This iconic image inspired the creation of Dogecoin in 2013, initially intended as a lighthearted joke currency. However, Dogecoin quickly gained popularity and paved the way for other dog-themed tokens like SHIB and FLOKI, forming a significant sector within the cryptocurrency industry.

To bid farewell to Kabosu, Sato will host a memorial event on May 26th at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City. Attendees are invited to pay their respects and share their cherished memories of Kabosu.

Kabosu’s influence extended beyond the crypto world, becoming a symbol of internet culture and meme magic. Her image, often accompanied by humorous and endearing phrases, resonated with millions, making her a beloved figure. The Dogecoin community, known for its charitable donations and fun-loving nature, embraced Kabosu as its mascot, contributing to the currency’s popularity.

Coinciding with the news of Kabosu’s passing, the memecoin market has experienced a recent downturn. Trading volume across the sector, including Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and Pepe, has seen notable declines. Currently, the memecoin sector represents a substantial market capitalization of around $57.3 billion and a 24-hour trading volume of approximately $12.9 billion.

Over the past week, Dogecoin has seen a 3.81% decrease in value, while Shiba Inu has experienced a decline of 3.33%. Pepe, the newest memecoin to gain popularity, has seen the most significant drop, with a 38.74% decrease in value.

The news of Kabosu’s passing has elicited widespread reactions. Unseen Japan reported, “Kabosu, the female Shiba Inu known as the Doge meme dog, passed away at 18.” Pop Base also expressed their condolences, stating, “Kabosu, the dog from the Doge meme, has sadly passed away.” These heartfelt messages from the community reflect the impact Kabosu had on people worldwide.

The farewell party for Kabosu will take place on May 26th at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 pm to 4 pm. Attendees are advised to park in nearby lots as on-site parking is unavailable. The owner plans to hold another celebration at Sakura Furusato Hiroba when the weather cools down.
